Help Protect the Threatened Powder Rim Wildlife Linkage!

The Wildlands Project's vision for a Spine of the Continent Megalinkage will become successful only if the regional Wildlands Networks that make up this megalinkage become reality. The Heart of the West Wildlands Network is a critical component in this process, and protection of its Powder Rim Wildlife Linkage is a top priority for achieving connectivity both in the Heart of the West and along the Spine of the Continent. Your help is needed now!

What You Can Do:

  1. Contact the regional and state offices of the Bureau of Land Management and urge the agency to preserve the Powder Rim as an Area of Critical Environmental Concern as suggested in the citizen's alternative to the Great Divide Management Plan.
  2. Ask that BLM safeguard the Powder Rim region from habitat-altering activities, including the agency's own preferred alternative calling for a natural gas project in Desolation Flats calling for 385 wells in this area. Tell the BLM that protection of the Powder Rim area is an ecological priority and that oil and gas drilling is inappropriate. If drilling proceeds, it should avoid sensitive lands and habitats and employ available technologies that minimize damage to the environment.
  3. Contact our regional partner group, Wild Utah Project, and volunteer to assist with Powder Rim Wildlife Linkage protection projects. Call (801) 328-3550 or email wup1@xmission.com
  4. Send a Letter-to-the Editor to your local newspaper promoting Powder Rim Wildlife Linkage protection. Focus on the threats to wildlife connectivity posed by oil and gas drilling in the Powder Rim area.
  5. See the Wildlands Project website (www.wildlandsproject.org) for more information; call 720-565-8630; email rockymountain@wildlandsproject.org
